Last year our Augmented Reality “Touch Table” sports analysis system stopped people in the aisles. How will we top it this year.

We always like to have some fun at IBC, and balance showing what’s new in our family of broadcast graphics products with a show stopping spectacle.

We are keeping the details of the plans under wraps for now, but you can expect to a combination of virtual, AR and touch technologies seamlessly bought together in a way that will bring any show alive whether its news, elections, quiz shows or sports.

 
Sports Analysis and Telestration

As well as the main stage, we will have demonstration podiums showing off all our products, including the popular tOG Sports product. This starts off as a low cost telestrator but there are options for internal video clips, tied to pitch analysis and advertising graphics, customisable giant touchscreens and much more.

One of the new features we will be releasing at the show is feature based camera tracking technology, which builds on its proven line tracking technology. This means non-line based sports (cricket, athletics, motor racing et al) can now benefits from tied to pitch graphics without the need for encoded VR heads.

We will have both EVS and Grass Valley video servers on the booth and our new network based control and file based workflows are a must see for all major sports broadcasters.

 
Virtual Studio

As well as having our Virtual Studio products on our partner Chyron’s booth, we can show you a live demonstration on ours. Whether you want tracked or trackerless, simple or the most powerful multi camera requirement, we have a solution for you.

 
Touch Based Applications

We continue to lead the way with touch based broadcast applications and this year we will have a real extravaganza on the booth, make sure you see it. Giant screen, iPads and integration with AR graphics are all included.

 
Proud Providers for the IBC InfoChannel and IBC News Channel

For the second year running RT Software is an IBC Technical Supporter providing the graphics on the IBC Info Channel and IBC TV News. This is distributed around the RAI as a near live channel to multiple screens, this year there will be twitter feeds, video segments, supporter branding, commercials etc., in addition to Conference, Event and General Information.

RT Software continues to increase its portfolio of major sporting events using its virtual graphics technology with the addition of dominant UK terrestrial horse racing broadcaster, Channel 4 Racing.  Viewers of the prestigious Cheltenham Gold Cup and Grand National would have seen virtual distance lines and informative virtual graphics appear as though they were painted on the hallowed turf. In reality, this was achieved using a tOG-Sports Live graphics system combined with a Vinten 950i encoded VR head, allowing pan, tilt and zoom movement of the camera. The package allows high quality graphics to be applied to the turf track live and in the correct perspective, plus the tOG Sports software chromakeyer means the horses appear to run over the graphics.

“The challenge with live virtual graphics at horse racing are 2-fold”-commented Mike Fredriksen, Commercial Director at RT Software. “The lens here are typically x72 or larger and the inherent lens distortion causes graphics to move on the ground as the lens goes in tight and comes out, creating a “swimming” effect, shattering the illusion that the graphics are real. W e have a very good procedure for compensating for this, resulting in graphics that are locked in place. Also a good keyer is required – it’s not such a problem here in the UK but in South Africa and Australia the courses can be very dry, meaning you are keying a brown horse on a sandy track. Our software keyer has the sophistication to handle that with good results.”

Jamie Aitchison, Channel Four’s Sports Editor, was full of praise for the new graphics. “The virtual graphics we debuted at the Cheltenham Gold Cup was one of a number of new additions to our programming which looks set to deliver the best viewing experience yet for our audience throughout the rest of the season and beyond.”

The system was supplied by Moov, a UK based graphics services company, who also operate the system at the venues on race days. “Having a system that was quick and easy to rig on race days was critical”  added Duncan Foot, Managing Director of Moov. “We only have a few hours to rig so the fact that the tOG system can be fully operational so swiftly helps take the pressure off”.

Channel 4 is the UK’s dominant terrestrial horse race broadcaster, production of the horse racing programmes is handled by IMG with graphics supplied by Moov. tOG-Sports Live is RT Software’s product for adding virtual graphics at live sporting events.
