|The smart thing we have done is to provide a hybrid system that will work in a typical sports production. During the game it’s an analysis system, delivering live or near to live graphics such as off sides, highlighting regions, and so on. But in just a matter of minutes, the system is ready to use as an AR system, whether pitch side or in the studio.
|Of course, the studio shows will typically need some analysis sequences, and they are taken care of using the virtual AR screens to play out the analysis sequences.
Deployment of the system in the studio is very straightforward as all that is required from vision is a static camera mounted to give a wide angle shot of the studio. There is no need for expensive camera tracking hardware as all the camera moves are achieved in software – the studio camera is completely static and locked off.
The hardware specified is a low cost, locally sourced Windows workstation, such as the HP z440 workstation utilising AJA video i/o boards and an nVidia GPU. Just plug it into an SDI or IP camera and within minutes you will be inserting informative and compelling AR graphics into your studio set.
Deployment of the system in the studio is very straightforward as all that is required from vision is a static camera mounted to give a wide angle shot of the studio. There is no need for expensive camera tracking hardware as all the camera moves are achieved in software – the studio camera is completely static and locked off. This cuts out one of the biggest costs of AR as camera tracking technology can easily be tens of thousands of pounds per camera.
In addition, no hardware based camera tracking means no lens calibration is required. This in turn gives the benefit that setup and rigging times are massively reduced making it possible to use Sports-AR in temporary studios or pitch side with no prior access.
Custom graphics can be created using the Edit-3d editor (not included).
Your studio show is likely to need analysis clips, and the hybrid nature of this product makes it possible. Simply use the tOG-Sports system to prepare your analysis clips as usual and save them on the workstation. Later, when the system is switched into AR mode these clips can be played out either as full screen graphics or as VT on the virtual video wall or a pop up virtual video screen. This can include cue points to give the presenter control over the clips if required.
It is worth stressing there is no live telestration by the presenter as is possible on the tOG-Sports system.
One of the key benefits of AR is the ability to customise and change things quickly. Included as one of our standard graphics, sponsors logos can be added to physical elements of the set quickly through the web based operator interface. This is so easy they can be changed during a show if needed. In addition, custom AR graphics such as 3D sponsor logos can be created for more visual impact.
Just like all the RT Software products, Sports AR is future proof. The heart of the system is a modern rendering engine using floating point colour definition. It’s not just UHD ready but higher resolution formats too along with HDR.
In addition, the system supports traditional SDI cameras alongside IP cameras (currently NDI).
